The agriculture sector is relatively new to the country. The UAE mostly grows dates, watermelons, and a variety of vegetables.In the UAE, agriculture only makes up three percent of the total GDP, and also makes up seven percent of the total labor force. Despite this, the country of the USA has agriculture making up two percent of the total GDP and 2.3 percent of the total labor force. This is qutie surprising since industry has been around for a much shorter amount of time than agricultural for the USA, while industry was a driving force of the UAE economy, leaving agriculture to eat the dust. Anyhow, this does show that agriculture has been growing in the UAE.
The service sectors is also fairly new to the country. In the UAE, services makes up 43 percent of the total GDP, but makes up 61 percent of the total labor force. But, there is only one type of service that dominates that entire service sector, which is banking. The banking industry is so large, the government started the UAE Central Bank in order to regulate the banking business. Anyhow, in contrast, services in the USA make up 81 percent of the total GDP but makes up only 13.5 percent of the labor force. The large difference between the two percents may be due to variety in businesses, which the UAE lacks.
The industry sector is has dominated the country's economy since the beginning. This is due to the fact that it has the world's fourth largest oil reserve, which allows it to continually dig and refine oil and profitable rates.Other than refining oil, the industry also makes cement, fertilizer, and textiles. In the UAE, industries make up 52 percent of the total GDP, but only 32 percent of the labor force. This difference could be due to the working conditions of the factories. In contrast, the industry sector of the USA makes up 18 percent of the total GDP and 24.6 percent of the labor force. However, this does not show that the UAE has more advanced industry.
