The education system is managed by the UAE Ministry of Education.

The administered education system is as follows.

Primary Level Education

Everys student is required to take six years of primary education, starting at the age of six, which is very similar to how it works here in America. This level is paid for by the government. At this level, Arabic is the main subject. Unlike here in America, division by gender is required.

Secondary Level Education

After the primary level, students then take a secondary level of education which is divided into two sections: preparatory studies and specialized studies. Each of the studies runs for three years. In specialized studies, the student is allowed to choose between the sciences or the arts.

Additional

After the student takes the secondary level, they may or may not consider doing an addtional six years of studying. In these additional six years, the student chooses to study in either technical, agricultural, or commercial studies. This may be comparable to American colleges.

As of 2003, the government expenditure on education was estimated to be about 22.5 percent of the total government expenditure, almost one-fourth of the national government expenditure.

The UAE ranks 136th in literacy.

Specifically Speaking...

In 2005, the national literacy rate averaged to 90 percent of the total population. In comparison, the literacy rate of this wonderful country we live in is 99 percent, putting it at 45th place, tied with 33 other countries that have a 99 percent literacy rate. Being at about the middle of the rankings does signify that something is wrong with the way that the children are learning the Arabic langauge.

As a result

Due to the high amount of education in the country, the growth will continue to specialise and develop However, due to the fact that the actual system is not changing, very little growth will come of the system. This makes this one of the few flaws of teh system, something that should be fixed for the continued increase of local jobs.
