Here are somethings that have been major news to the world

• UAE and Iran dispute over the islands of Tunb and Abu Masa, both of which are occupied by Iran. If the UAE does end up getting these islands, the UAE may have more land to expand their industry and agriculture.
• The UAE has become a major transshipment point for drug traffickers. Some government regulation has helped, but informal banking still occurs.
• Some companies hire foreign workers who work for very low pay, low enough to be called slaves. This has become world-wide news. Although it is effective for the companies, it is morally wrong.

Government Ecouragement of Growth

In the 1990s, the national government launched the UAE diversification program. This was in hopes to losen the country's dependency on oil. The government did this by ecouraging new types of businesses; including agriculture, fertilizer production, and other services. This has seen a rise in the number of economic sectors, but oil still dominates the market.
